Airport Fire & Rescue Training

Since Pohnpei International Airport’s airline operations is not on a 24-hour basis, the seven firefighters’ duty schedules are set so that at least three fire firefighters are available during every regular or tentatively scheduled plane operation.

The ARFF division currently has 3-fire trucks, two are the latest model C-2 and C-4 capable of holding 1,500 gallons of water 500 gallons of concentrated foam each and one which is an older model C-3 capable of holding 1,000 gallons of water and 500 gallons of concentrated form.

The Pohnpei International Airport Emergency Plan was revised and submitted to the FSM Secretary of Transportation, Communication and Infrastructure for approval. A full life emergency exercise with the assistance of US Federal Aviation Administration, Honolulu International Airport Fire Department, Commonwealth Ports Authority of Saipan Fire Department, Pohnpei State Government and FSM National Government was held at the Pohnpei International Airport in November 2012. It is the requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that the airport holds similar emergency exercise once in every three years
