POSITION: Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter
SALARY: Grade-6, $7,408.00 Per Annum

SUMMARY: Performs aircraft rescue and firefighting functions in the event of aircraft crashes, and otherwise performs rescue, firefighting and emergency services in the event of fires, disasters or accidents involving the airport and other ports under the control of the Pohnpei Port Authority (PPA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Regularly participates in classes, training programs and airport emergency drills, and otherwise develops and maintains skills and abilities to apply advanced methods and techniques of rescue and firefighting involving aircraft crashes, structural fires, and fires of unusual hazards.
- Develops and maintains advanced skills in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and applies the associated skills to persons needing such emergency treatment accordingly.
- Drives and operates aircraft rescue and firefighting trucks and comparable vehicles in stand-by readiness for aircraft arrivals and departures. Otherwise drives fire and rescue vehicles to scenes of crash and/ or fire following a predetermined route, or selecting an alternative route when necessary. Positions vehicles considering factors such as wind direction, hazards, and/or location of aircraft.
- Controls and extinguishes fires using a variety of hand tools, hydraulic tools, portable fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment. Climbs standard and aerial ladders, lifting and carrying people and equipment for rescue and salvage. Enters crashed and/ or burning aircraft to free or rescue passengers and crew members as required. Otherwise operates apparatus to make forced entries, ventilate structures, and to perform or assist in rescue operations including the administration of first aid to injured victims, and performing salvage and overhaul operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year College and/or technical school or High School graduate and some knowledge in Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter or related fields. Must have no record of felony or criminal conviction and must be physically fit. Having Driver’s License is preferred.
